Ghana will exceed IMF’s upgraded 5.7% growth forecast – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed confidence that Ghana’s economy will grow beyond the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) revised projection of 5.7% for 2026.

The IMF recently raised its growth forecast for Ghana from 4.6% in its April projection to 5.7%, representing an upward revision of 1.1 percentage points.

Reacting to the improved outlook, Dr Forson said the government remained confident that the economy would perform even better than the Fund’s latest projection.

“The IMF has upgraded Ghana’s 2026 growth forecast from 4.6% to 5.7%. We are confident we will exceed that projection,” he stated.

The Finance Minister attributed the government’s confidence to its commitment to fiscal discipline, credible economic management and reforms intended to sustain the country’s economic recovery.

Dr Forson made the remarks following a meeting with Zeine Zeidane, Director of the IMF’s African Department, on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to the minister, discussions centred on Ghana’s economic turnaround and the government’s commitment to maintaining policies aimed at strengthening economic stability.

“In Bangkok, I met with the IMF’s African Department Director, Zeine Zeidane, and reaffirmed our commitment to the fiscal credibility, discipline and bold reforms powering Ghana’s economic turnaround,” he said.

The meeting comes as Ghana continues to pursue fiscal consolidation and economic reforms aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and supporting sustainable growth.

The IMF’s upward revision signals an improved growth outlook for Ghana compared with its earlier forecast. However, the government’s ambition to exceed the 5.7% projection will depend on economic performance and the sustained implementation of its fiscal and structural reform agenda.

Dr Forson’s remarks underline the government’s expectation that continued fiscal discipline and economic reforms will help maintain the country’s recovery and deliver stronger growth in 2026.
