The Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has appointed Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor, marking a key leadership transition at one of Ghana’s leading public universities.

The decision was reached during a Council meeting held on Thursday, April 16, 2026. According to the announcement, Professor Iddrisu will officially assume office on June 27, 2026, and is expected to serve a four-year term ending on August 31, 2030.

His role will include steering UDS’s strategic direction, strengthening institutional governance, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality higher education aligned with both national priorities and international academic standards.

The appointment comes at a time when universities in Ghana are increasingly focusing on research excellence, community engagement, and innovation-driven development. UDS, in particular, has maintained a strong reputation for its development-oriented academic model, with emphasis on addressing regional and national challenges through research and training.

Professor Iddrisu is a respected academic and seasoned university administrator with extensive experience in higher education leadership. He currently serves as Principal of the Nyankpala Campus of UDS, where he has played a significant role in academic coordination and institutional development.

Over the years, he has built a reputation for dedicated service, visionary leadership, and meaningful contributions to teaching, research, and community engagement. His academic portfolio reflects a strong commitment to knowledge generation, capacity building, and advancing scholarly work within his field.

His appointment is widely seen within academic circles as a continuation of experienced leadership at UDS, with expectations that he will further strengthen the university’s impact in training skilled graduates and contributing to national development.
