Teacher in viral video assaulting female student at Nyinahini Catholic SHS arrested

A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting a female student on the school's campus.

The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr. Fenyi stated.

The incident has generated widespread public outrage after footage shared extensively on social media appeared to show the teacher physically confronting the student while bystanders pleaded with him to stop.

According to the video, the teacher repeatedly punched the female student and, at one point, allegedly lifted and threw her to the ground. Witnesses can be heard urging him to remember that the victim was a girl and to refrain from using physical force.

However, the teacher, who appeared visibly angry in the footage, reportedly responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”

The circumstances that triggered the confrontation have not yet been disclosed by school authorities or the Ghana Education Service.

GES has indicated that the regional education directorate has commenced investigations into the incident and is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Service’s headquarters for further action.

The arrest comes amid growing calls from parents, education stakeholders, and members of the public for stronger safeguards to protect students and ensure accountability within educational institutions.

Authorities are expected to determine the appropriate disciplinary and legal measures after the completion of ongoing investigations.
