Tiger Eye PI denies ‘shelved Parliament exposé’, challenges Vitus Azeem to prove claims

Accra-based investigative group Tiger Eye PI has strongly rejected allegations that its founder, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, produced and withheld an exposé on alleged corruption in Parliament of Ghana, describing the claims as baseless and fabricated.

The response follows comments attributed to anti-corruption campaigner Vitus Azeem, who reportedly suggested that an undercover investigation into Parliament had been conducted, previewed, and later shelved.

In a statement, Tiger Eye PI dismissed the allegations as “entirely false, contrived, and a figment of Mr. Azeem’s imagination,” stressing that neither Anas nor any member of the organisation had made such claims. The group further insisted that no such investigation had been carried out or presented to any Members of Parliament.

The organisation challenged Mr. Azeem to provide concrete evidence to support his assertions, including identifying any lawmakers who allegedly previewed the supposed exposé. It maintained that without proof, the claims remain unfounded.

Tiger Eye PI explained that although similar allegations have surfaced in the past, it chose to respond due to the seriousness of the claims and the credibility of the individual involved. The group cautioned that unverified statements of this nature could create a misleading impression that Anas was deliberately withholding evidence of corruption—an assertion it firmly denied.

While acknowledging public interest in exposing wrongdoing within Parliament, the organisation emphasized that such interest does not equate to the existence of an investigation, nor does it compel the group to undertake one.

The statement also highlighted the risks associated with investigative journalism, referencing the killing of its former team member, Ahmed Suale, as a stark reminder of the dangers faced in their line of work.

Describing Mr. Azeem’s remarks as “reckless and irresponsible” in the absence of evidence, Tiger Eye PI urged him to substantiate his claims. It added that individuals who believe such investigations are straightforward are free to pursue them independently.

Reaffirming its mandate, the organisation stated that it remains committed to exposing corruption but emphasized that decisions on what to investigate—and when—are determined solely by the group based on prevailing circumstances.
