Mahama Pledges Support for Primary Healthcare”

At the launch of the Primary Health Care Programme, John Dramani Mahama underscored government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots healthcare systems as a foundation for national well-being. The initiative reflects a renewed focus on preventive care and equitable access to essential health services across the country.

The President highlighted the importance of investing in primary healthcare as the first point of contact for many citizens, particularly in rural and underserved communities. He noted that strengthening these systems is critical to reducing the burden on major hospitals and improving overall health outcomes.

He emphasised that a robust primary healthcare system can play a key role in early disease detection, health education, and the management of common illnesses before they escalate into more serious conditions. This approach, he explained, is essential for building a resilient and sustainable healthcare system.

The programme is also expected to enhance access to healthcare services by expanding facilities, improving staffing levels, and ensuring the availability of essential medical supplies. Officials say the initiative will prioritise community-based care and strengthen outreach services to reach vulnerable populations.

President Mahama reiterated that improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots level remains a key pillar of the government’s broader development agenda, aimed at promoting national well-being and reducing health inequalities.
