Accra High Court grants GH¢100,000 bail to Abronye DC

The Accra High Court has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, following legal proceedings surrounding allegations that the outspoken politician published or spread false news.

Abronye DC had earlier been remanded into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) by Circuit Court 9 in Accra pending further investigations into the case.

His legal team subsequently filed a motion before the High Court challenging the remand order, arguing that his continued detention was unnecessary and unjustified under the circumstances.

The case has attracted considerable political and public attention in recent days, particularly after Abronye DC was rearrested despite earlier being granted bail during ongoing investigations.

Prior to the High Court’s decision, the NPP strongly criticised the handling of the case, especially the transfer of the matter from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two.

According to the party, the transfer process was “mind-boggling” and raised serious concerns about fairness and judicial transparency.

The NPP further alleged that the procedural changes surrounding the bail application were part of attempts to frustrate the legal process and intimidate opposition politicians.

Party officials argued that the development reflects growing concerns about political pressure and the treatment of opposition figures within Ghana’s political environment.

Supporters of Abronye DC and several NPP members reportedly gathered around the court premises during the hearing as anticipation grew over the High Court’s ruling.

Legal analysts say the granting of bail represents a significant development in the ongoing case, although investigations and possible prosecution proceedings are expected to continue.

The outspoken politician, known for his strong political commentary and criticism of political opponents, remains one of the NPP’s most visible regional executives and media personalities.

The case is expected to continue generating political debate, particularly as tensions rise between the governing administration and opposition parties ahead of future national political activities.
