The Ministry of the Interior has announced an immediate ban on the use of motorbikes in Binduri and surrounding communities in the Upper East Region following a deadly security incident involving an attack on a military patrol team.
The directive, issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, comes in the wake of a violent confrontation that left three civilians dead and another injured. During the exchange of fire, military personnel reportedly neutralised seven of the attackers.
According to the Ministry, the restriction is part of urgent security measures aimed at restoring calm, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding lives and property as security forces continue ongoing operations in the area.
“In view of the security situation, the restriction is a necessary measure to maintain law and order, protect lives and properties, and support ongoing security operations in the area,” the statement explained.
The Interior Ministry stressed that the use of motorbikes had been temporarily restricted due to their alleged role in facilitating mobility during violent incidents, making it necessary for security agencies to tighten control in the affected communities.
Government has also appealed to traditional authorities, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents of Binduri and nearby areas to remain calm in the aftermath of the incident. It urged them to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
Authorities further encouraged residents to report grievances through peaceful and lawful channels, and to cooperate fully with security agencies deployed to restore stability.
Security officials say the measure forms part of broader efforts to prevent further violence and reinforce security operations in the Upper East Region, which has seen periodic tensions in recent years.
The Interior Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians while ensuring that peace and order are fully restored in the affected communities.
