Lands Minister visits Minerals Development Fund, calls for greater impact in mining communities

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has paid an official visit to the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), reaffirming government’s commitment to strengthening institutions that support sustainable development in mining communities. The visit forms part of broader efforts to ensure that Ghana’s natural resource wealth delivers long-term benefits to local populations.

During the visit, the Minister engaged with management and staff of the Fund, urging them to prioritise performance, accountability, and the delivery of measurable results. He stressed that public institutions must operate with efficiency and transparency to maximise their impact on national development.

He emphasised the critical role of the MDF in ensuring that benefits from Ghana’s mineral resources translate into tangible improvements in the lives of people living in mining areas. According to him, communities affected by mining activities must see real and sustained development outcomes, including infrastructure, education, and livelihood support.

Officials at the Fund led by Hannah Bissiw-Kotey, described the visit as timely and inspiring, noting that it has renewed a strong sense of purpose among staff to enhance their impact and deliver meaningful outcomes. They indicated that such high-level engagement helps align institutional goals with national development priorities.

The MDF reiterated its commitment to promoting responsible mining practices while implementing development projects that improve livelihoods in mining communities across the country. The Fund also emphasised its role in ensuring that mining revenues are used effectively to support sustainable and inclusive growth.

The visit underscores ongoing government efforts to strengthen oversight, improve resource governance, and ensure that the extractive sector contributes meaningfully to socio-economic development in Ghana.
