Carlos Queiroz hands six GPL players Black Stars call-up for Mexico friendly

Six standout performers from the Ghana Premier League have earned call-ups to the Ghana national football team ahead of a high-profile international friendly against Mexico national football team.

Leading the list is Salim Adams of Medeama SC, whose exceptional form this season has been instrumental in his club’s title ambitions. The midfielder has emerged as one of the most influential players in the league, combining attacking output with composure and technical excellence, particularly from set pieces.

Adams has registered an impressive 11 goals and one assist in 26 league appearances, while also earning eight Man of the Match awards—highlighting his consistency and match-winning impact.

Joining him is Razak Simpson, the captain of Nations FC, who has been widely praised for his leadership qualities and defensive reliability. Simpson, who has had previous stints with the national team, last featured during the Unity Cup under former head coach Otto Addo.

Also earning recognition is Ebenezer Abban of Heart of Lions. Known for his energy and defensive discipline, Abban has been a key figure for the Kpando-based side, delivering consistent performances throughout the campaign.

Ebenezer Adade of Dreams FC has likewise impressed, showcasing versatility and tactical awareness. His ability to adapt to multiple roles has made him an important part of his team’s structure.

In the goalkeeping department, Solomon Agbasi of Hearts of Oak has been rewarded for his reliability despite being the club’s second-choice goalkeeper. Agbasi has delivered strong performances whenever called upon, stepping in effectively in the absence of first-choice keeper Benjamin Asare and recording several clean sheets.

He is joined by Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC, whose disciplined displays and consistency have established him as one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the domestic league.

The inclusion of these six players by head coach Carlos Queiroz signals a clear intent to reward domestic form and integrate local talent into the national team setup. It reflects a broader strategy to strengthen the Black Stars by blending home-based players with foreign-based professionals.

As Ghana prepares for the friendly clash against Mexico, the selected players have a significant opportunity to prove their quality on the international stage. Their performances could play a crucial role in determining their chances of making the final squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The call-ups have also been welcomed by fans and analysts, who see it as a positive step toward recognising and promoting talent within the domestic league.
