IGP summons Volta Police Commander over alleged extortion on Aflao–Accra route
Following his engagement with the IGP, DCOP Wisdom Akorli has scheduled a meeting with all Divisional and District Police Commanders in the Volta Region for Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The meeting is expected to focus on the allegations and determine appropriate measures to address the concerns raised by traders and transport operators.
Police sources indicate that personnel deployed to the affected locations have already been cautioned against misconduct while investigations into the allegations are being pursued.
The police administration is also constituting an inspection team to identify and investigate personnel who may have been involved in the alleged acts.
The latest intervention comes as the police administration seeks to ensure that personnel conducting operations along major transportation corridors adhere to professional standards.
While police checkpoints are intended to support security and law enforcement, allegations of harassment, extortion or unnecessary delays could undermine public confidence in the service and create difficulties for traders who rely on the Aflao–Accra corridor for their businesses.
The inspection team is expected to establish the facts surrounding the allegations and determine whether any personnel breached police procedures or professional standards.
The police administration’s response will also be closely watched by traders, transport operators and other road users who depend on the route for the movement of people and goods between the Volta Region and Accra.
Authorities are expected to take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigations.
